Five Awards Announced

Announcement of the award of five prizes was released by Registrar Sargent Kennedy '28 this week. All must wait for final approval by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

The Helen Choate Bell Prize of $400 will be divided equally between Stanley S. Miller 2B for his essay entitled "The Poetry of Wallace Stevens," and Francis G. Steiner 1G for his essay entitled "Art and Belief in the Poetry of Ezra Pound."

Gavin Wins $250

Sherman Paul 4G won honorable mention for his essay on "The Angle of Vision."

Jeromo P. Gavin '50 won the George B. Sohier award of $250 for his thesis: "The Act of Involvement in William Faulkner's Light in August." One Radcliffe and two College seniors received honorable mention: Mary T. Moulton, Robert M. Durling, and David L. Jones.

Two Music Awards

Another senior, Roger C. Cramton, won the Phillip Washburn Prize with his thesis entitled "Alexander Hamilton and His Biographers." The prize is the income from the fund.

Two awards for musical achievement go to a junior and a senior. Martin Boykan '51 won the George Arthur Knight prize for a string quartet and Carlos C. Spies '50 the Bohemian Club prize for a sonata for two planos. Both are income from funds.
