Three professors will rotate in the Math Department chairmanship next year, the University announced last night.
Joseph L. Walsh '16, Perkins Professor of Mathematics, will hold office from July 1 to January 31. David V. Widder '20, professor of Mathematics, will take office on February 1 and hold it until June 30; he will be followed by Garrett Birkhoff '32, professor of Mathematics.
The University also announced the appointment of Charles S. Singleton, professor of Romance Languages and Literature, as next year's chairman of that department.
Department chairmen run departmental meetings and deal chiefly with administrative work on courses and organization.
