Martin (Pinetree) Doherty, six-foot, eight-inch basketball center from Pelham, New York, said last night that he had turned down his freshman scholarship to Harvard and will enter Colgate University in September.

The basketball star had offers from 15 colleges, but said that "the final decision lay between Harvard and Colgate. Both offered the same scholarship and had the pre-med program I wanted, but I felt that I'd be happier at a smaller college than Harvard."
