Mary Martin, star of "South Pacific," will help judge the playwriting contest being sponsored by the Harvard and Radcliffe Playwrights' Groups.
When she accepted the invitation to judge yesterday, Miss Martin said she "looked for a play like 'South Pacifle' for years, and it finally came along. I hope to find another play just as good," she remarked.
Contestants have until October 10 to finish their plays, but they must announce their intention to enter the contest to the group's vice-president, Russell A. Ames 51, before June 10. The Group will definitely produce the winning play here next year, according to Ames.
The other judges are Archibald MacLeish, Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, William B. van Lennep '29, curator of the Theatre Collection, and Eleanor Hughes, dramatic critic of the Boston Herald.
Although any kind of play can be entered in the contest, comedies will be preferred.
