Corporation to Mark 300th Birthday at Dinner Tonight

The Harvard Corporation will celebrate its 300th birthday with a private dinner at 7 p.m. tonight in Dunster House. The President and Fellows of Harvard College, who form the Corporation, will mark the anniversary of the charter which established the University administration in its present set-up.

Members of the Board of Overseers, the deans of the various faculties, and the staff and seniors in Dunster will be guests at the party The old College silver--rare pieces used in the College in the 17th and 18th centuries--will be brought out especially for the occasion.

Dean Sperry, chairman of the Board of Preachers, will open the ceremonies with a prayer. President Conant and Gordon Fair, master of Dunster House, will welcome the guests. Professor Austin W. Scott of the Law School will speak for the various faculties, and the Board of Overseers will be represented by former Governor Robert F. Bradford '23.

The dinner is taking place in Dunster is honor of the College's first president, Henry Dunster, who was largely responsible for the incorporation taking place. The College silver used tonight will include some that dates back to President Dunster's day.

The Charter was signed by Governor Thomas Dudley of the Massachusetts Bay Colony on May 31, 1650. Final examinations would hinder many Dunster seniors from attending the dinner if it were held on the exact anniversary.

Two of the speakers at the dinner, Conant and Bradford, are descendents of Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony.

In addition to Conant, the Corporation members are Paul C. Cabot '21, Treasurer of the College, Charles A. Coolidge '17, Dr. Roger L Lee '02, Henry L. Shattuck '61, Grenville Clark '03, and William L. Marbury, Jr.
