Illicit Arms Ring Grips New Haven

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Candy and toy store owners in the New Haven area are being terrorized by a ring of water pistol-selling Yale students, the Yale Daily News recently reported.

The Yalies have contracted with a national manufacturer for hundreds of the squirt guns, according to the News article. The students distribute the pistols to local retailers, stipulating that the guns be sold at double the usual market price.

Store owners who do not comply with the inflated price scale are soon cut off from the outside sources of supply, because the Eli Krupps have completely cornered the market.

New Haven Shakedown

The owner of a store within two blocks of the President's house received a bootleg shipment of arms a week ago. He was promptly visited by three of the Yale black marketeers, who tried unsuccessfully to coerce him into raising his prices.

Capitalizing on the increased demand for hydro-weapons on the Old Campus at this time of year, the anonymous ring also offers a two-gallon, water can and a hose, to complete the water-fighter's battle kit.

Yalies employed the water guns in the Derby Day celebration Saturday. They also used up other liquids: one freshman took a flying leap from a third story window in Vanderbilt Hall.

Other minor mishaps over Derby Day also seemed to center around Vanderbilt. Not only did another luckless in male topple down three fights of stairs Friday night, but a minor riot, involving a bonfire on Old Campus, caused Harold B. Whiteman, Assistant Dean of Freshmen, to put the whole dormitory on probation.
