Exeter's Powerful Lacrosse Team Clashes With Yardlings Here Today

For the first time this year, the freshman lacrosse team will be a definite underdog, when it plays a strong Exeter squad on the Business School Field today at 3:45 p.m.

Red and Gray coach Bob Kesler has assembled a hard-hitting, experienced team. All but one of the starting ten are seniors. The first midfield has played together for two years. Todd Goodwin, Mike Brand, and Rob Trowbridge are fast and "can score," according to Kesler Brand specializes in bodychecking.

Exeter teams stress accurate passing and control of the ball on the ground. They are well-drilled on extra-man plays and are accordingly dangerous. A rock-ribbed defense led by veteran Lou Browning gives Captain Dave Peck, all-New England goalie, solid protection.

The attack matches the defense in ability. John Fish feeds shifty Tom Corcoran and creaseman Jim Felstiner. This trio went wild against Tufts, as Exeter racked up a 17 to 0 win.

The Red and Gray has lost but one game, 9 to 7, to a good Yale team. They have won four. But Kesler still isn't satisfied with his team's showing to date. "They haven't hit their peak yet," he claims.

The freshmen will be at almost full strength for the game. Chuck Pyle still favors his bad ankle, but Coach Dick Whitney plans to use him as much as possible. Norm Hatch will not start, but will probably see early action. Both Hatch and Pyle are Exeter alumni, as are five of the starting team, including Captain Roger Martin.
