Dr. Henry A. Murray '15 has been appointed professor of Clinical Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Provost Buck announced last night. Murray, now Lecturer on Clinical Psychology, appeared recently as a witness in the Hiss-Chamber trial--the first time any psychiatrist has testified in a Federal Court.
Murray appeared for the defense of Alger Hiss to give psychiatric testimony on Whittaker Chambers, the chef witness for the prosecution.
Murray is a world-recognized authority on clinical psychology and personality study. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel for five years in World War II in the Office of Strategic Services, and received the Legion of Merit for his work in the selection of personnel.
After his graduation from Harvard in 1915, he attended Columbia where he received his M.D. in 1919. Subsequently he studied under C. G. Jung. He joined the Faculty in 1926, and has taught here since.
