Strikers picketing the local Liggett drug store at 1310 Massachusetts Avenue received some encouragement yesterday as many students stopped to give them a friendly word and some even joined in an effort to persuade would-be customers from entering the store.
The Rexall Drug Company, owners and operators of the store, have refused to arbitrate with the Retail Pharmacists' Guild of the American Federation of Labor since the strike began last Saturday, but offered the union a reduction of two hours and a raise of 31 per week before the strike began.
The union is holding out for a $5 raise and a reduction of 2 to 4 hours, depending on type of work.
The wage minimum is now 30 cents an hour and most employees receive 35 cents. Women now work 46 hours a week and men 48.
