Varsity Golfers Beat Holy Cross, '53 Ties

Varsity golfer Doug Wilde, playing number three, broke a three all tie with his two-up victory to give the Crimson a 4 to 3 win over Holy Cross yesterday at the Belmont Country Club.

Bob Matson, shooting number one for the Varsity, and Hugh Nawn in the second position, both lost their matches, one down and 5 and 4 respectively. Jack Denton won his match, 6 and 5; Dave Gorman won, 4 and 3, with the lowest Crimson medal score, 75; and Paul Weissman won, 3 and 2. Herb Mee lost the seventh place match, 4 and 3.

Crusader second man Paul Harvey had the lowest match score, 74, and Holy Cross Captain Tracy Mehr shot a 77. Matson and Wilde both scored 78's.

The Yardling golfers played Lowell Textile Institute to a 3 to tie in Dedham. Dave Hedberg, number two man, fifth-place George Wheeling and sixth man Jack Dennis won the Crimson matches.
