The Temporary Committee of the Last Minute Men who have been circulating a petition to abolish the Student Council, expelled its spokesman, William E. W. Gowen '51, last night.
"A "loyalty board" of the Last Minute Men stated that Gowen was expelled for "too lenient views and a tendency toward Ed Burkishness." The meaning of the latter charge was not elaborated upon in the prepared statement given out to the press.
The Temporary Committee declined to state how many signatures had been collected as they "have not yet called back all the petitions." They had previously claimed 1500 signers.
Calling again for abolition of the Council, the statement recommended "the establishment of a Student Committee which will avoid the regulatory attitude of the old Council and will confine itself to the useful and necessary job of speaking for the students before the powers of University Hall."
