Coach Dolph Samborski sends his freshman baseball team in search of its third straight victory against New Prep at 3:45 p.m. today at Soldiers Field. Tomorrow, the Yardlings entertain Cushing Academy at 3:00 p.m.
In a tune-up for the coming contests, the freshmen played a practice game against Rindge Tech yesterday and captured a 5 to 2 victory. Righthander Steve Stamatopulos went all the way for the Yardlings, fanning 15. Both runs were unearned.
Pitching Staff Picked
Samborski has nominated Luke Lockwood and Fred Vonderlage, both right-handers, to share pitching duty against New Prep. Big Bob Ward, who set M.I.T. down on two hits in the season's opener, will pitch against Cushing.
The freshman lineup: (both games)
Canepa, 2b; Smith (c) cf; Collins, rf; Johnson, lf; Chase, 3b; Wade, c; O'Brien, 1b; Greeley, ss; Lockwood and Vonderlage, p (today); Ward, p (tomorrow).
