Herbert Dieckmann, chairman of the Romance Language Department at Washington University in St Louis, has been appointed associate professor of French Literature here, Provost Buck announced last night. The appointment is effective July 1.
Dieckmann is the author of "Le Philosophe" (1948), a critical edition with commentary of Denis Diderot, the 18th century encyclopedist. He has been a fall professor at Washington since 1948.
