Dean Mason of the School of Public Administration will succeed the late Joseph A. Schumpeter as George F. Baker Professor of Economics, Provost Buck announced last night. The appointment is effective July 1.
Mason, who will continue his duties as dean, has taught economics at the University since 1923 and has been a full professor since 1937.
During World War II, Mason served on the board of analysts of the Office of Strategic Services and later as deputy to the Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.
Mason is currently cooperating with a group of University and M.I.T. specialists in the field of law, government, business and economics in a study of the monopoly problem in American business and government.
