Milton Academy's team gave the freshman tennis squad only token opposition yesterday, and the Yardlings easily won the opening match of the season, 9 to 0.
Charley Ufford overpowered Milton's Oakes Plimpton in the number one singles match, 6-0, 6-4. Art French took the number two match from Kirk Rankin, 6-1, 6-2.
Milton's Brooks Harris rallied after losing the first set of the number three singles to Harry Hatton, taking the second set. But Hatton recovered, and took the match, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Bill Harrington stopped Chip Clark in the fourth singles match, 6-4, 6-2.
Ufford and French combined to trounce Plimpton and Harris in the first doubles, 6-1, 6-1. Hatton and Berk Johnson lost the first game of their doubles match to Harris and Jim Clark, but went on to take the next two games and win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
