Cronin's Cashier Stymies Gunman's Holdup Attempt

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At 9:32 p.m. last night, a five foot seven inch man, approximately 35 years old, entered the cashier's office of Jim's Place while the cashier, Marie, Colman, 33, was typing menus.

When questioned about what he wanted, the man said, "Give me the money." Miss Colman replied, "Get out of here."

Irate, the thief pulled out a pistol, pointed it at Miss Colman and repeated his request, adding he needed the money badly. Miss Colman, adamant, said once again, "Get out of here."

This rocked the gunman, who then asked, "If I leave, will you scream?" Miss Colman answered that she would not.

So he left.

Cambridge police were informed of the attempted holdup.

During the existence of Cronin's as a well for College men, some 15 attempts have been made at its cash register. Only three have been successful. Three years ago, cashier Helen Cronin succeeded in foiling a trio of bandits.

Miss Colman said she wasn't sure whether or not the weapon was real.
