Bolles Cuts Crew Hopefuls to 28; Freshman Boatings Still Undecided

Love Selects 27 Men For Vacation Drills

Coach Harvey Love has now pared down his autumn group of 60 freshman crew aspirants to a working squad of 27 men. By rowing on the river all fall, and in the tank in the winter these 27 have earned the opportunity to row twice a day throughout vacation.

This year Love did not get his heavies on the Charles until March 17, a week later than usual. As a result, the boatings are still uncertain. "We have a few more likely oarsmen than last year, but we can't tell now whether they'll shape up into a crew," Love said.

At a Low Stroke

"Right now we put them in a boat as they come down," he continued, "but we will probably be able to pick a first crew during the vacation when the stroke goes up." He explained that many men who look well at a low stroke "fall to pieces" when the boat gets faster and the conditioning more intensive.

The following are the men from which the three boats will be chosen: Adams, Atherton, Boyden, Brown, Dickinson, DuBois, Fenton, Gibson, Green, Heartt, Henderson, Huntington, Jeffries, Kennedy, Morgan, Park, Paulus, Reinhardt, Reiselbach, Robinson, Rouner, Seymour, Simonds, Straus, Wendell, Whiting, and Wyman.
