Forum Discusses Teaching Careers

Instructors in large universities and colleges should have practical experience in their speciality, Donald H. Morrison, Dean of the Faculty at Dartmouth College, said at a conference on careers in education last night.

The panel of five was headed by John U. Monro '35, assistant to the Provost, who stressed "good hours, frequent vacations, and the avoidance of time-wasting competition," as the main advantages of teaching. "The gimmick," he added, "is you must like children."

An acute shortage of educators will soon be felt in public and private elementary schools, declared William Jansen, Superintendent of Schools of the City of New York, and John Sindall, Principal of Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge.

The eighth and last of the career conferences will be held in Lowell House at 8 p.m. tonight. Colonel C. P. Summeral, professor of Military Science and Tactics, will lead the discussion on Military Careers.
