Mason Hammond '25, professor of Greek, Latin, and History, was appointed yesterday to the 81-year-old post of Pope Professor of the Latin Language and Literature. Hammond, master of Kirkland House, is a member of the freshman board of advisors and an authority on Roman history.
During the war, Hammond was a colonel in air force intelligence. Previously, as a Rhodes scholar, he received up the degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Literature from Oxford.
