Dick Kahn outfenced a field of 16 swordsmen to win the Inter-House foils championship for Lowell House, in the first day of the intramural fencing tournament yesterday. Ellis Traub of Leverett House came in second.
Only three Houses broke into the scoring on the first day of the tourney. The Bellboys lead with three points; Kirkland and Leverett are tied with two points apiece.
Bill Soule of Matthews North copped the freshman title. Second places went to Chuck Cutler of Hollis.
Kahn Undefeated
Kahn defeated the four opponents he faced to win the House title in a grueling two hour session. Both he and runner-up Traub represented the Crimson on last year's freshman team. Traub was one of the top saber men, while Kahn specialized in the foil and epee.
Fencing coach Rene Peroy directed yesterday's competition and members of the freshman team judged the bouts.
