Harvard's quartet of Bob Berke, Shop Brown, Bob Stroud, and Captain Joe Fox took third place in the 400-yard free-style relay last night in Annapolis, as the first six events of the 10th annual Eastern Intercollegiate Individual Swimming Championships were completed in the first season of the three-day meet.
Yale won the relay in 3:30.5 with Dartmouth second.
Harvard's only other finalist yesterday was breaststroke John Steinhart.
To no one's surprise, Yale immediately took a tremendous lead, with a win in the freestyle relay, first and second in the one meter dive, first and fourth in the 150-yard backstroke, first in the 220-yard free, and fourth in the 50-yard free and 200-yard breaststroke.
Princeton sophomore Bob Brawner ended the three-year reign of Joe Verdeur of Lasalle in the 200-yard breaststroke.
