Strong performances in the epee gave both varsity and freshman fencers 14 to 13 victories over Yale Saturday at New Haven.
The win avenged the varsity's loss last year to the Elis by the same score.
Joe Overholser's three wins in the epee helped the varsity take that division, 7 to 2, after it had dropped the foils, 5 to 4. The Blue's strong saber team dominated the rest of the afternoon, but the Crimson eked out three victories to clinch the match.
The Yardlings were sparked by George McNair's three victories in the epee. They took that division, 7 to 2. They also won the foils, 5 to 4, but Yale overpowered them in the saber, 7 to 2.
The varsity summary:
Foils: Vera 2-1; Martin 2-1; Frankmann 0-3. Epee: Overholser 3-0; Smith 2-1; Morton 2-1. Saber: Carter 2-1; Gay 1-2; Levine 0-2; Pierce 0-1.
The Freshman summary:
