The eligibility of Dick Lionette, high scoring captain of the freshman basketball team was still in doubt as the Yardlings made ready to entertain Exeter at 4:30 p.m. in the Blockhouse today.
Lionette was ruled ineligible earlier this week, pending a review of his case by the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports. He reportedly played for the Mereer Club of Everett in an amateur game on January 29, a violation of eligibility rules.
Frank Mahoney, Brown varsity captain, was ruled ineligible for playing without permission, in the same contest. Yesterday, however, Mahoney was reinstated after an "examination of the facts" by the eligibility committee of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, of which Brown is a member. This further confuses Lionette's status.
In the event the Lionette can't play today, Coach Flody Wilson indicated by would start John Nichols in Lionette's place.
