Bequest Gives University 3000 Acre Catskill Forest

Almost 3000 acres in New York forest land was recently given to the University by the will of the late Dr. Ernest G. Stillman '08, the University announced yesterday.

Along with news of the addition to the University's real estate came word of numerous other gifts which the physician had given anonymously during his lifetime. His 72 donations to his alma mater included the Briggs Memorial baseball cage and a large part of the cost of the Indoor Athletic Building.

The Catskill Mountain treeland, which is known as the Black Rock Forest, will be managed by Hugh M. Raup, director of the Harvard Forest in Petersham, and will be used for purposes of forestry experimentation under the department of Economics.

Stillman's heretofore anonymous donations include also parts of the Department of Pathology, the Peabody Museum, the College Library, and the Gray Herbarium. One of his gifts was given as "a member of "Friends of the Harvard Forest."
