The varsity squash team defeated McGill University, 7 to 0, yesterday in its first intercollegiate match of the season. The team meets Dartmouth at 3 p.m. today is Hemenway Gymnastum. The Crimson displayed both strength and depth as it steps MCGill, which defeated Dartmouth last week. The Indians have a win over M.I.T. to their credit.
The Hedmen of McGill, after the long trip from Montreal and playing on unfamiliar courts, were easy victims with the exception of their top map, Quain, who extended Captain Henry Foster to five sets.
Fester (H) defeated J. Quain, 15-13, 18-17, 18-15, 11-15, 15-12; Clark (H) defeated Dighy, 15-10, 15-3, 15-6; Nawn (H) defeated R. Quain, 17-18, 15-9, 15-12, 15-10; Ufford (H) defeated Pearce 15-16, 16-10, 16-9; Waits (H) defeated Brodour 15-10, 15-12, 15-12; Bacon (H) defeated Black 15-5, 15-7, 15-4; Mugaseth (H) defeated Oliver 15-10, 15-0, 15-10.
Hugh Nawn, number three man on the varsity, won the Canadian Open Squash Tournament at Montreal last Saturday; Charlie Ufford, number four on the Crimson, was runner-up.
The freshman "D" team also won yesterday, downing the University Club, 4-1, for their first win in five matches.
