'54 Track Season Will Begin Today

The freshman track team, described by coach Jaakke Mikkola as potentially powerful but lacking depth, faces its first test at 1:30 p.m. today in Briggs Cago against a Northeastern squad which is also shallow in several events.

Paul Sheats, Joo Ratyns, and Irv Murray of the Yardlings turned in good performances in the 600, the dash, and the shot put, respectively at the trials last week, and should do well today. In most of the other field events and the longer runs, they team's lack of depth will preclude any chance of a sweep.

Three freshman stars from Boston University are also centered in the Yardling meet, although their achievements will not count in the team scoring. They are Jimmy Kelly, Jim Cameron, and Ken Horton, each of when is a national or regional champion.
