HUERA Probes Social Security

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard's largest labor union will take no stand on University-wide Social Security until and investigation by its legal adviser is completed, H.U.E.R.A. president Daniel G. Mulvihill stated yesterday.

The Social Security question comes before the University staff--faculty as well as service employees--this afternoon as the first solicitation for signatures favoring the plan begins.

Calls for Meeting

The head of the 1,000-member University Employees Representative Association said "There are lots of questions to be answered" and called for a question-and-answer meeting of the University and H.U.E.R.A. employees. Such a meeting was held last spring when the present Retirement Plan was inaugurated.

A letter mailed Friday by the Personnel Office stated that there would be no reduction of University retirement benefits for service employees if Social Security is adopted, except in certain rare cases.
