Brown Football Coach Resigns After A year

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Gregory "Gus" Zitrides resigned yesterday as head football coach at Brown after it became apparent the University Athletic Council would not renew his contract.

Zitrides said that the was resigning as of March 1, 1951, because he "felt it best for Brown's football future and my own." His team won only one of nine games this season.

The resignation was accepted yesterday morning, thus ending nearly a month's speculation as to whether Zitrides would retain the job he took eight months ago. At that time the former line coach succeeded Charles A. "Rip" Engle, who became head coach at Penn State.
