Fast Will Speak at P.B.H. Tomorrow

Author Howard Fast, who was denied permission to speak at Columbia last Wednesday, will give a talk in Phillips Brooks House tomorrow. The address is sponsored by the Young Progressives Club and begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Parlor Room.

The writer had accepted an invitation from the Progressive Club at Columbia to discuss the McCarran Act, but on November 16 W. Emerson Gentzler, Associate Provost of Columbia, announced the university's ban. He offered no explanation for the university's action.

James Somers, student chairman of the Progressive Club at Columbia, issued a statement shortly after the ruling had been disclosed. "It indicates," said Somers, "that the administration in abandoning the principles of American democratic traditions."

Fast is of admittedly pro-leftist leanings. He had been denied permission to speak at Columbia once before, in 1948.

The subject of his lecture here has not yet been announced.
