President Conant's latest book, "Science and Common Sense," will be published February 19 by the Yale University Press. Press officials yesterday described the book as "a discussion of the essential scientific facts that a layman should know."
The book is a completely new text, based on Conant's 1947 volume, "On Understanding Science," which was aimed at teachers and students. The 1947 book was the published version of the Terry Lectures which Conant delivered in New Haven.
In the new 300-page volume, aimed at a broader audience, Conant gives a historical resume of science's role in society, together with an analysis of its place today.
