Leverett's sophomore laden hockey team opened its season yesterday with a sloppy 3 to 2 win over Dunster at the Boston Skating Club.
The Funsters, heavy underdogs, surprised the Bunnies, scoring on their first attempt, on a crease shot by Mitch Rosenholtz. Jim Philips then tied it up for Leverett with a close-in poke.
Midway through the opening period, Bob Farnham put Dunster in front again, but Leverett defenseman Andy Smith slipped a 30-foot shot into the Funster cage to knot the score once more.
Leverett, skating without four of its regular forwards, was unable to score again on Dunster goalie Hank Feldman until, with three minutes to play in the game, Charlie Boit tapped in a soft shot for the winning goal.
After that, Bunnies Dan Simonds and Lew Brown ragged the puck, preventing any all-out Dunster attack.
In House B League basketball Kirkland defeated Dunster 42 to 37, Leverett beat Lowell 25 to 17, Winthrop trounced Eliot 45 to 20, and Adams edged Dudley by two points, 30 to 28.
