Proctors, McNiff Favor Study Hall

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At a special meeting yesterday, proctors of the freshman dormitories approved the idea of acquiring a study hall for use on Sundays. They proposed that the basement of Memorial Chapel, which is used for study purposes during the week, be made available for the extra day.

Phillip J. McNiff, librarian of Lamont, had originally recommended the study hall because of the impossibility of opening Lamont Library on Sundays, which had been suggested by the Union Committee. He told a special Committee meeting last night that such an extension of hours would incur a "considerable additional financial cost" which the library budget cannot afford, McNiff estimated that if the library were to stay open on Sunday the cost would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $400, probably more.
