Cronin's, Catholic Club Seek Possession Of Pediatric Study Site on Mt. Auburn

The old pediatric study on Mount Auburn Street may become either a Catholic Club meeting place or an extension of Jim's Place of Cambridge, Inc.

According to Donald Hathaway, representative of Hunneman and Company, real estate agents for the University, the pediatric study and the double windowed store next to it are now for rent.

Both stores are served by the same boller and according to Hathaway it would be preferable to rent them to the same tenant. The Catholic Club is presently interested in only one of these stores.

This would seem to give Cronin's the advantage, but Hathaway has pointed out that Arthur Parker Fine Foods, a new tenant of the University, has put a lot of money into the redecoration of the Dunster-Mount Auburn establishment, and it is the agency's policy to protect its tenants.

John Cronin, proprietor of the local bistro, said last night that he doesn't see how his business could be construed as being in competition with the Parker Place. "They're two entirely different businesses," Cronin said.

Cronin further stated that if he should rent the building he would be ready to break through the wall between the present Cronin's and the new store in a half hour. Cronin's was located in the pediatric study building before it moved to its present spot in 1943.

The decision rests with Humneman, Cronin announced. "If they want to give the store to the Catholic Club, we won't contest."
