Varsity Strengthens Offense In Practice With Yardlings

The varsity football team spent two hours yesterday afternoon running and playing from its single wing attack against dummies and then against Henry Lachar' freshmen as Lloyd Jordan prepared his offensive patterns for Saturday.

Despite the pressure of hour exams, nearly a full squad reported. Defensive Jack and end Dike Hyde, who missed the Holy Cross game, also showed up in sweat suits. Jordan said he expected to be able to use Hyde against Princeton, but Burke will definitely be out.

Although Jordan had the Yardlings run a few plays against the varsity, the emphasis was all on the plays which will be used in Palmer Stadiums against the nation's eighth best team.

Jordan's first backfield had John West at full, Gil O'Neil at quarter, Carroll Lowenstein at fall, and Jerry Blitz at wing. The passing combination of Lowenstein to Blitz was particularly effective against the Yardlings, as was the running of West and reserve tailback Bobby Ray.

Sophomore Dick Duback, who has played mostly on defense, ran tailback in the second unit until replaced by Ray. This backfield also had Tom Ossman running fullback, Dave Wardon as wingback, and Phil Isenberg at quarterback.

Hank Rate and Paul Crowley played the defensive ends, while Stan Britton and George Emmons worked the defensive flanks.
