University, Police Delay Riot Talks Until Next Week

Action on City Councillor Edward A. Sullivan's bill calling for consultation between Cambridge and University officials on damage caused in the Yale and blackout riots probably will not be forthcoming until next week, a spokesman at City Manager John B. Atkinson's office said yesterday.

In Sullivan's order, which passed with a unanimous vote at Monday's Council session, Atkinson was directed to confer with Chief of Police John R. King. Following this, the police will consult with University officials in an attempt to discover and prosecute the students involved in the riots and to discuss possible University payment of damages.

The spokesman stated that Atkinson will not be able to receive Sullivan's order until next week because he is away at a convention.

King said when the authorization does come, "I will be very cautious as to how I proceed. As far as I know good relations still exist between the City and the University.
