Crime Opens Winter Comp Tonight

A brief poll of the College yesterday disclosed that a large number of undergraduates are interested in improving their writing ability, attending athletic contests and other events without paying, gaining practical experience in business, and learning latest photographic techniques by enter the CRIMSON's second competition.

Men who fit into any or all of these categories can receive chance simply be dropping in to sample the free beer and cokes in the little brick building at 14 Plympton Street, at 7:30 p.m. tonight when the CRIMSON opens its second competition of the fall.

For the first time this year the comp is open to Harvard freshmen, as well as to sophomores and juniors. They will have an opportunity to win their press cards on all boards-editorial, news, photographic, and business-through a proving-period of approximately eight weeks. Information on a Radcliffe comp will be announced later.

News Board

The news board has started many a budding journalist and author on the road to success. Its members dash madly about Cambridge learning all sorts of interesting and little known facts. In the process they have an opportunity to meet the more interesting people of the ares, from college presidents to burlesque queens. They gain experience in feature and sports writing, as well as straight news reporting. Every member of the board has an opportunity to edit a paper, becoming the best-informed man in the College the following morning, or to brush up on world events by editing the Associated Press column.

Editorial Board

For men who wish to express opinions on policies in College or world events, the editorial board grants the opportunity. CRIMSON editorials have caused, crushed or influenced many local occurrences in the past. The board offers a creative writing course, an intellectual stimulus, and passes to theatres. The editorial board is also seeking cartoonists for its staff in this competition.

Business Board

The business board offers the College's only course in practical business training. Members handle accounts in this area, design advertisements, count money, and learn the operation of a large scale and independent business office. They, of course, can become well-acquainted with all technical facets of newspaper publication.

Photographic Board

Students interested in photography can improve their skill and have daily use of the latest and best in photo equipment. Members of this board have perennially swept many of the top prizes in College photographic contests.
