A man's privacy is a sacred thing. And as everybody in Cambridge knows, just about the most private place you could find around here was a spot a quarter of a mile east of the Stadium on Soldiers Field Road. Now they're building a bridge there.

It'll be a nice bridge, probably-all $732,000 of it. But how is anyone going to park with people whirling around him in a rotary? Mr. Langsworth of Muuroo-Langsworth, the contractors for Eliot Bridge, conceded that it "might disturb one a bit." A workman was equally callous: "They'll just have to find another place further down."

The little bond in the Charles, for years a haven on Saturday evenings, is now getting a helping hand from nature. The bridge's foundations are currently sinking into the mud; a soft base has delayed the construction past its proposed completion date of October, and may even extend it to the Spring. In the end, a few more students will be herded into bars.
