Varsity Holds Season's Closing Heavy Practice

Drill Polishes Defense; Injured Men Return

The varsity football team left its practice enclosure for the last time this season yesterday afternoon, as Harvard virtually completed preparations for tomorrow's game with Yale. All that remains now is the light session in the Stadium today: Yale will work out from 2 to 3 p.m., the Crimson from 3 to 4 p.m.

Tonight, the 33-man Harvard squad will go to the Fessenden School in Newton following the evening meal at the Varsity Club, marking the first time since the war that the Crimson has stayed out-of-town overnight on the eve of a home Yale game.

The Eli contingent, which arrives at Back Bay at noon today by special train, will put up at the Bellevue Hotel.

Workout in the Morning

Lloyd Jordan shifted yesterday's workout to the morning hours and decided to forego the training table meal in view of the Thanksgiving holiday. It was a routine two and one-half hour non-contact session, with the varsity setting defenses against the Bulldog offense as handled by the jayvees. Punting and kickoffs were also stressed.

Jordan ended the practice by sending his seniors against tackling dummies, to the cheers of the other members of the squad. Inside, band music filled the field house and "Beat Yale" was chalked up on practically every available wall surface.

In Good Condition

Physically, the team will come up to the game in good physical condition. Except for Bob Stargel, first string offensive tackle, everyone is expected to be ready and Stargel may see limited action himself. Hank Toepke will fill in for him on offense.

Stan Britton, out since the Princeton game with a shoulder sprain, will be available for defensive duty, although he has not scrimmaged this weak.

Burke Returns

The defensive picture was brightened somewhat on Wednesday with the return of halfback Dusty Burke. In the first defensive backfield until he suffered a back injury in mid-season, Burke has not engaged in scrimmage either, but Jordan may use him against the Blue.
