Hoagy Carmichael entertained an audience of 300 Lowell men last night with songs and bawdy stories while they drank almost 200 quarts of beer' at a smoker in the dining hall.
When Carmichsel arrived, he grabbed a glass of beer, climbed up on a table, and started telling gags amid shouts of "sock it to 'em, Hoagy."
Carmichael finally seated himself at the plane and banged out "Hong Kong Blues," "The Monkey Song," "Barbara," and everybody joined in for his "Stardust" finale.
Between songs, he recalled his own college days at Indians.
