Captain Bonney said the students' affidavits are required under an executive order of March 21, 1947, but have not been used at Harvard until now.
The affidavits ask the student to state whether he "has or has not been a member of, or employed by, or has attended or been present at, formal or informal meetings or gatherings" of 160 organizations listed as subversive.
Captain Bonney said 250 affidavits already have been signed and returned, and no student has answered wrong yet. From the Boston Globe, October 20, 1949.
