The untested freshmen football team will open its season at 2 p.m. today against Andover on the Blues' field. Andover, perennially a power in prep school football, has another strong team this year; it trimmed the Yale freshmen last week, 12 to 0.
Henry Lamar, Yardling coach, put the freshmen through a final light workout yesterday and pronounced the team fit and ready to go. The drill concentrated mostly on pass and dummy defense alignments, and ended with kickoff practice.
The actual starting lineup will depend on whether or not the freshmen kick off. The first string offensive team is pretty well set, but Lamar so arranges his squad that the fastest men start if the yardlings kick off.
Offensively, the freshmen line up with Bill McCourt and Ed Kennedy at ends, Bill Frate and Pete Simonds at tackles, Fred Horween and Dave McDowell as guards, and Bill Coolidge, center. The backfield has John King at quarterback, Dick Clasby at tailback, John Culver at full, at Warren O'Donnell at wingback.
The well-conditioned Andover team uses a T attack. Passing is stressed; both of the Blue scores against Yale came as a result of a aerials. Both quarterback Doug Melville and left half Doug Graham are passing threats. The line is experienced, but somewhat light.
ANDOVER: le, Beham; it, Cutting; le, Steadman; e, Franklin; rg, Cuthbertson; rt, Anderson (co-capt.); re, Berkowitz; qb, Melville; lh, Gradham; fb, Doran; rh, Kimball (co-capt.).
