Professorship in Pound's Name Set Up at Law School

A new professorship of law in honor of Roscoe, Pound, former dean of the Law School, was announced last night by Dean Griswold. Pound, who will be 80 on October 27, was dean of the Law School from 1916, to 1936, and a University Professor assigned to work "on the frontiers of knowledge," from 1936 until his retirement in 1947.

Griswold's announcement came at a dinner of the Harvard Law School Association in the newly dedicated Harkness Commons. Endowment for the chair was provided by the joining of two gifts, the Roscoe Pound Fund, best up in 1936 by the Harvard Law School Association, and a recent bequest by the late Edward Buckner, a friend and former pupil of Pound's.

Pound is now a visiting professor at the law school of the University of California at Los Angeles.

At the same time, Dean Griswold announced the establishment of a Foreign Law Research Study at the Law School. The study will seek to develop plans for helping lawyers to find answers to questions of foreign law. The new study is the first step in an expanded program of research and service at the Law School which will include extensive legal reference services for American lawyers and the establishment of a School of World Law.
