Yale Inaugurates A. W. Griswold as New Pres. Friday

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Although he has already assumed his official duties, A. Whitney Griswold will be formally installed as president of Yale University at a ceremony in Woolsey Hall at 3 p.m. Friday.

At the request of the president elect, the rites will be simple and brief and will follow, as closely as precticable, the example set by inaugural exercises in the early days of the university.

Griswold will receive his symbols of office the charter, the seal, and the keys of the university from the presiding officer, The Reverend Arthur H. Bradford, senior fellow of the Yale Corporation. The new president will be escorted to Woolsey Hall by members of the Corporation, university officers, and deans and masters in academic procession.

Limited Seating Capacity

Students will not be permitted to attend the proceedings because of the limited seating capacity of Woolsey Hall; however, there will be no classes from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.

The inauguration of Yale's 16th president will be held in the presence of the University Council, Alumni Board, Committee on Endowments and Gifts, class members of the Corporation, faculty, secretaries, class agents, officers of the Alumni Association, chairmen of the development committees, and the ranking scholars of the several schools appointed by the deans and masters.

Since the announcement of his election in February, Griswold has travelled abroad to study the educational and operational problems of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. He assumed actual control over Yale's affairs on July 1.
