Eliot Trounces Adams, 33-0; Deacons Top Leverett, 27-0

Two one-sided games brought the House Football League to the half-way mark yesterday afternoon. A strong Eliot eleven made 33 points and held Adams scoreless; Kirkland shut out Leverett, 27-0.

Eliot started early in its game with Adams, two passes from Charles Cabot to Major Close producing the first score. Riley Gilbert then took the ball and ran it 40 yards for the second. Both conversions were good.

Adams fumbled the ball on the Eliot 30 in the second quarter. The Elephants picked it up, and, after losing 15 yards on a penalty, gave the ball to Gilbert, who went all the way for a touchdown. The conversion failed.

From then on, Adams hardly held the ball. In the third period, Eliot's John McNamara took it deep into the Gold Coasters' territory, going over on the next play. Miles Hurder pulled down another long pass from Cabot for the final touchdown of the game.

Steve Kurtzman ran deep into Adams territory near the close off the game. The Elephants came close to another score when Kurtzman passed to Hank Greenberg in the flat. A penalty and the end of the game prevented the score.

Early in the second quarter of the Bunny-Deacon game, Leverett's Gwil Brown, playing his first game since a right knee injury two weeks ago, carried the ball deep into Kirkland territory, where he was hit hard. He hurt his other knee and fumbled. The Deacons recovered and John Tanger sent a long pass to Dick Larkin on the Leverett three yard line. The Bunnios held for four downs, then punted out of danger.

Kirkland came back, however, near the end of the period with a pass from Tanger to Shig Dolan and a run by Dolan to score. Tanger passed to John Connelly for the extra point.

In the opening moments of the second half, Tanger went off tackle for 60 yards and a Deacon touchdown, then passed to Rod Robbins for the point. Leverett tried a pass that Dolan intercepted and took to the three. Dick Larkin carried the ball over, only to have the touchdown called back by a penalty.
