Opening its season in a blaze of ignominy, the Mill Street Field hockey team yesterday lost a 2 to 1 decision to a strong Annex eleven in a game played in the 'Cliffe quadrangle.
The aggressive 'Cliffedwellers made their bid in the first half, scoring twice against goalie Fred Coburn, and continually forcing the Mill Streeters into deep defensive positions.
Lacking adequate defense in front of the goal in the second half, the girls finally yielded to Mill Street power when Doug Anderson scored a goal, shot off a pass from Nick Arundal. It was the only goal they got against goalie Sally Vincent, who had six saves to her credit.
