Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
Rhode Island and Holy Cross are slight favorites against Crimson varsity and freshman cross-country teams in Harvard's opening meet at 3:45 p.m. today in Franklin Park. Both the Rams and the Crusaders have run previous races this season.
"The varsity should show up quite well," Coach Jaakko Mikkola said yesterday. "We have a real fighting team, and it has been improving all week."
Today's team will consist of the first 12 varsity men in last week's University handicaps.
Rhode Island Favored
The Rams are favored in the three-way meet over Franklin Park's four and a half mile course, although they will be without the services of last year's champion Bob Black. They have already run in two meets, and beat Springfield in one of them. Holy Cross was defeated by Dartmouth in its initial meet but shows a promising star in Bill Ahern.
The Yardling harriers look promising but will have difficulty in upsetting a Rhode Island freshman team which took a clean sweep from Springfield.
