Isaiah Bowman '05, University Overseer and president emeritus of Johns Hopkins, died of a heart attack Friday in Baltimore, at the age of 71. The noted geographer retired a year ago from John Hopkins after serving as its head for 14 years.
Bowman received an honorary LL.D. from Harvard in 1936. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Committee to Visit the Department of Mathematics. Bowman served as an adviser to Presidents Wilson and Roosevelt, in addition to his work in education.
Howman's death was unexpected: he was in excellent health, his physician reported.
