Sharman Douglas, well-known debutante who has been courted on two continents and who was a recent choice of the Hasty Pudding Club for "Woman of the Year," was stood up by her admirers on the opening night of its show "Heart of Gold" in New York City on December 26.
The daughter of the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James had postponed a trip to Arizona in order to accept the club's invitation to attend the New York premiere of the play, but as the hours passed no escort appeared to accompany her to the performance.
A Pudding official called this faux pas "a preposterous error" and predicted that from now on the Club's "social name will be mud."
