The Yale Torch Society, an organization composed of Yale's most influential seniors, made a strong plea yesterday for de-emphasis of athletics.
Maintaining that the increased trend towards professionalism in athletics is "inconsistent with the best interests of well-balanced higher education," the Torch made two specific recommendations. These are a maximum 12 week season in all sports, with no supervised team practice allowed outside of that season, and two hours a day maximum practice in a major sport.
