Crimson Crushes Mass U in Track

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In its second informal meet of the season, hold Saturday in Briggs Cage, Jaakko Mikkola's winter track team over-whelmed a weak contingent from the University of Massachusetts. The meet was unscored but Crimson coaches estimated afterwards that if scores had been kept, Mass wouldn't have eked out more than ten points.

The Crimson took first in all events and placed men second and third in almost every competition. Among outstanding performances were double wins in the shot put and weight throw by Captain Jeff Tootell, who unofficially bettered his own Harvard record in the shot, and wins in the broad jump, % mile, and 50 yard hurdles by Dave Carter, Dave Cairns, and Charlie Durakis respectively.

Crimson runners turned in good times sweeping the 40 yard dash, the 600 yard; the 1000 yard and the 1 1/2 mile runs.

Last night the track team gave coach Jaakko Mikkola a surprise birthday party at his house.
